The Regional Resource Recovery Centre

What is the RRRC?

RRRC Licence

In May 2012 the Southern Metropolitan Regional Council was granted an amended two-year operating licence for the Regional Resource Recovery Centre. The licence includes 54 stringent conditions which will be monitored and evaluated by the Department of Environment and Conservation. A full copy of the licence can be downloaded here.

The Regional Resource Recovery Centre (RRRC) is central to the SMRC’s Regional Waste Management Strategy.

The $100,000,000 facility known as the RRRC is based at Canning Vale. It is operated by the SMRC and it uses state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure to process waste and recover recyclables for reuse.

The RRRC facilities and processes

The RRRC is home to three separate facilities for organic waste processing, the sorting and recovery of recyclable materials and green waste mulching: Each of the facilities has been designed with additional capacity to allow for regional population growth over the next 20 years.

Waste collection

All residents of the SMRC member councils have the same two-bin collection system.

The Green-topped bin is for kitchen waste, general household waste and smaller garden waste.

The yellow-topped bin is a commingled bin for all dry recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass and aluminium.

In addition, the SMRC also provides residents with a disposal service for green waste.

Once collected all household wates is taken to the RRRC for recovery and processing.
